Traditional
handicrafts and a wide range of products responding to all the tastes
are available in the boutiques, souk and fondouks of Médina.
Boutiques
More than two hundred boutiques are awaiting you to offer you treasures
worth one thousand and one nights.
Souk
The souk is a bazaar occupied by a group of specialized merchants. In
Médina Mediterranea, it is a real architectural museum, animated by
craftsmen and dressed-up walkers-on.
Built on two floors, the underground for the traditional small
workshops and the first floor for the more modern boutiques, it evolves
inch by inch offering stylistic sequences without any repetition.
Neither the windows, nor the doors, nor even the columns are the same:
everything is built as a unique piece of art; even the roof changes
according to the place! It is a wink of the Tunisian bazaars, but of
Morocco, Persia and Turkey as well.
Fondouk
The fondouk is a caravanserai; the four fondouks of Médina Mediterranea
are essentially showrooms, and places for sale of Tunisian handicrafts,
where you can admire the skills of Tunisian craftsmen at work.
The
"Fondouk La Goulette" is inspired from Tunisian Jewish architecture. It
is conceived with the aim of preserving the Jewish cultural and
architectural patrimony in Tunisia.
The
Syrian Fondouk "El Hamidia": there, homage is given to the silk weavers
of Damascus and the craftsmen fully at work while explaining their art.
Fondouk "Baghdadi": homage to the past splendors of Irak. It gathers the virtuosos of ceramic and glass soufflé..
Fondouk
"Marrakech": homage to Morocco, to the most frequented souk of Africa.
It is a concentration of craftsmen specialized in leather and wool.
